Question 1

Can I take a CIPLE A2 mock test online without registration?

Accepted Answer

You can browse a free screen-by-screen CIPLE A2 mock preview on the mock test guide (https://www.prep2go.study/ciple-a2-mock-test#mock-walkthrough) — no account required. Full timed runs with AI scoring unlock with Prep2Go Pro (includes 1 timed mock) or a mock pack. Sign-in is only needed to save skill-practice progress.

Question 2

What is the CIPLE A2 pass score?

Accepted Answer

CAPLE awards Suficiente from 55% overall (Bom 70–84%, Muito Bom 85–100%). Component weights: Reading & Writing 45%, Listening 30%, Speaking 25%. CAPLE does not publish a separate per-component fail floor. A very weak section can still pull the overall below 55%.

Question 3

When are the CIPLE A2 exam sessions in 2026?

Accepted Answer

CIPLE A2 sessions in 2026 are scheduled for May, July, and November. Registration typically opens approximately 3 months before each session. Register at caple.letras.ulisboa.pt.

Question 4

How long does it take to prepare for CIPLE A2?

Accepted Answer

If you are close to A2, use a mock 2–6 weeks before the exam to find weak sections and vocabulary gaps. If you are starting from zero, treat Pro guided practice as the longer preparation path rather than the quick final-check route.

Question 5

What sections does CIPLE A2 have?

Accepted Answer

CIPLE A2 has four assessed components in three sittings (Reading and Written Production share one block): Reading & Writing (1h 15m, 45%), Listening (30 min, 30%), Speaking (~15 min per candidate pair, 25%). The exam fee is set by each centre (€95 at LAPE-FLUL in 2026).

Question 6

Do Brazilian citizens need CIPLE A2 for Portuguese citizenship?

Accepted Answer

Under Art. 6(4) of Lei 37/81, citizens of countries where Portuguese is an official language, including Brazil and other CPLP countries, may be exempt from the language requirement. In practice, some applicants still choose CIPLE A2 to avoid delays. Verify your case with legal counsel.

Question 7

What is the difference between CIPLE A2 and PLA for Portuguese citizenship?

Accepted Answer

Both CIPLE A2 and PLA can satisfy the A2 language requirement depending on your route. CIPLE A2 is an exam by CAPLE and is widely available internationally. PLA is a course-based pathway in Portugal with local enrollment constraints.

Question 8

Does the CIPLE A2 certificate expire?

Accepted Answer

No. CIPLE A2 certificates issued by CAPLE do not expire.

Question 9

Is European Portuguese different from Brazilian Portuguese on CIPLE A2?

Accepted Answer

Yes. CIPLE A2 is based on European Portuguese. For Brazilian candidates, listening can be harder due to pronunciation, rhythm, and vocabulary differences.

Question 10

Do I need Portuguese before using Prep2Go?

Accepted Answer

You can start from zero with guided practice, but the main readiness-check flow is strongest when you are close enough to take a timed mock and act on the weak-section report.

Question 11

How much does the CIPLE A2 exam cost?

Accepted Answer

The CIPLE A2 fee is set by each exam centre: LAPE-FLUL in Lisbon lists €95 for 2026, and some Portuguese centres list less (last checked September 2026). International test centers may charge more. The fee must be paid at registration and is non-refundable.

Question 12

Can I take CIPLE A2 outside Portugal?

Accepted Answer

Yes. CAPLE-authorised exam centers operate in over 35 countries, including Spain, France, Germany, the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Brazil, and Japan. International sessions typically run in May, July, and November — the same months as sessions in Portugal.

Question 13

What documents do I need to register for CIPLE A2?

Accepted Answer

You need a valid passport or national identity card for CIPLE A2 registration. You must use the same ID document at the exam. Register at caple.letras.ulisboa.pt or at an authorised international test center. Registration typically opens 3 months before each session.

Question 14

What is the difference between CIPLE and DIPLE?

Accepted Answer

CIPLE is CAPLE's A2 Portuguese exam; DIPLE is the B2 exam. CIPLE A2 is a common way to prove Portuguese for citizenship and permanent residence, but the language certificate is only one requirement of the nationality procedure. Both are issued by CAPLE at the University of Lisbon.
